Our Mission
BridgePoint Center for Eating Disorders, a provincial resource, provides program options that include intensive rehabilitation, recovery and healing for people who are experiencing eating disorders.

About Us
The BridgePoint program contributes to making a difference in the lives of people with eating disorders by opening a path for a process of discovery and recovery.

The voices of participants portray BridgePoint as a “safe and caring community in which we are accepted for who we are. We realize now that we do have choices and we are able to make decisions about our own lives. BridgePoint is a place where we discovered important elements of ourselves and learned to communicate authentically with others.”(Evaluative Summary)

BridgePoint is a provincially-approved residential program in Milden, Saskatchewan. The retreat atmosphere offers peace, quiet, privacy and simplicity. Services are available to women, men, adolescents and their families. The program provides a team-based approach with an emphasis on group learning experiences.

Our Thoughts about Recovery
Recovery is not necessarily about eliminating the eating disorder behaviors. It is about living life differently, so that the behaviors diminish overtime and may eventually disappear. Recovery is seen as a journey during which there may be detours and setbacks. The first step is acknowledging the difficulty of struggling day today with the pain, secrecy, isolation and shame that are a big part of an eating disorder.

“BridgePoint recognizes that it is not about the food.. . . They don’t force you. . . They know you have to nurture the spirit and it comes from the inside out.”– (program participant)

Participants have experienced a variety of personal changes that they have named recovery, including “self-discovery, expanded understanding of self, strengthened relationships, new ways of coping, making healthy life choices, learning life-enhancing skills, asking for help, and reduction of eating behaviors”– (Evaluative Summary)

Our Beliefs
“The talk about food is not the typical food guide stuff. It is very personal. It is all about making your own choices.”– (program participant)
•Eating disorders are a way of coping with stress and anxiety.
•Everyone has the capacity to grow and change.
•What people discover about themselves is a key to recovery.
•Recovery is an act of self-responsibility.
•Group learning experiences allow for sharing.
•Responsive and flexible teaching supports personal learning.
•Living in community is important for promoting individual growth.

“A community includes both “I” and “We”. If my focus is only on “I”, there is no community –only a collection of individuals. If my focus is only on“We”, I lose myself.”–(team member)
